Clinical Evaluation of Norfloxacin (Neutam-400^(¢ç)) in Urinary Tract Infection


Abstract
Effect of norfioxacin was evaluated clinically on 24 patients with urinary tract infec ion seen in our department. Norfloxacin was given orally at dose of 800 mg (2 tablets) per ay for 5 days and the results -were as follows:
1. Therapeutic effects were obtained in all 12 patients with cystitis, giving success late of 100%, 4 out of 7 with chronic urinary tract infection and 4 out of 5 with urethri is. Total therapeutic result was observed in-20 out of 24 patients with urinary tract infection, giving success rate of 83.33%.
2. In this clinical setting, norfloxacin was effective against all E. coli infection in 8, gram negative bacillus infection in 5 out of 7 and Staphylococcus, Klebsiella and Proteus in 1 each, respectively. However, it was ineffective against gonococcus in 1, gram positive bacillus in I and gram negative bacillus in 2, respectively.
3. Therapeutic effect was not observed in one patient with urethritis and 3 with chr nic urinary tract infection combined with predisposing factors. There was no side reac ion related to norfloxacin therapy in all cases.
